Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although this nursing home's overall grade was rock bottom, it actually didn't perform as poorly in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that area. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this metric. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving patients more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also stunned to find that this nursing home received a solid short-term care score this year. We awarded it a grade of C in that category. Our short-term care grades are vital for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The more important thing is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next best category is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed relatively badly. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category likely don't provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this nursing home provided the vaccine to a relatively low 61.627907 percent of its patients, which is slightly concerning. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Turning to our final category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. We weight this category more heavily than our other categories. For places with bad inspection ratings, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This particular nursing home had 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
