Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place is a quality nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection score. In fact, inspections is its best category. In this area, we awarded it an A. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 10 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. In calculating our nursing grades, we analyze both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as good measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. Indeed, we gave it one of our better scores in that category, with a grade of B+. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This place performed respectably in this area with 45 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded was long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a solid score in that area, with a C. Even though this wasn't as favorable as many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless nothing to be ashamed of. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the data points we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.6 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.36 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
