On top of faring well overall, this nursing home earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it earned one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A+. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings are not the end of the world.

In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. This place is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients. The facility provided roughly one and a half times as much care per patient from both of these groups of skilled professionals than the typical facility provided. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Maryland in this area with 66.3 percent of its patients returning home.

When determining our nursing scores, we assess both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. At least one fourth of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. This is a high percentage of skilled nursing care. In determining our grades, we apply additional weight to hours provided by registered nurses. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
