Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to point out the fact that this nursing home was given a dominant score of A in our short-term care category. In our short-term care category, we attempt to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It supplied more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 58.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. We weighed the levels of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This facility provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is among the highest figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by both of these figures. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place was also above average in several of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home received a respectable long-term care grade. Even though this isn't as good as some of its other category grades, this is really not the end of the world. Long-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents requiring non-healthcare services such as personal care. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.76247 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.94 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
