Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this place also earned top notch inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that area, with an A-. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also received a score of B for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 53.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. In calculating a facility's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This facility provided 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving a patient even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at was long-term care, where we gave it a strong grade of B. This facility really did not have any weak areas. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.931625 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. The last statistic we looked at is the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.95 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities due to some of the medical complexity of residents.
