Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a strong overall grade, this facility performed even better in the area of inspections which is based on the nursing home's recent inspection reports. In fact, we gave it a grade of A for this area, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility received strong grades in the category of short-term care as well. Indeed, it received one of our best scores in that area with a score of A-. In forming these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility was awarded strong marks in the area of long-term care also. In fact, we gave it one of our most dominant scores in that category with a area of A-. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.69565 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to our next category, this facility was given an acceptable nursing rating. Although this wasn't nearly as impressive as some of its other grades, this is truly not a terrible score. The nursing grade includes a handful of components, however, the primary one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this subcategory. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident at least once a day.
