Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that area, which is one of our best scores. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility was given its second best category grade in the area of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of C in this area, which is an acceptable grade. In the area of long-term care, we analyze the amount of care offered by a facility, rather than more medically-intensive services. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinates 95.08772 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. In our short-term care category, we try to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Based on its poor grade in this area, we weren't stunned to find this facility provides substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final area we analyzed was nursing. This facility received a very poor grade of F in this area. The nursing grade consists of a handful of subcategories, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. With a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. This facility also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign in light of the fact that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
