Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the nursing home's recent government inspections. We gave it an A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor dings are not something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Only a select group of facilities performed more favorably in this category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This facility provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is certainly a great sign. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who returned to the community from this facility. This place performed decently in this area, with 47.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. There are many datapoints included in this area. Most of these datapoints relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a relatively low figure. Nevertheless, more than a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. This is a high ratio of skilled nursing care, which we weight more in our nursing ratings. Finally, our nursing ratings also consider some quality-focused measures. We especially look at the percent of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These datapoints are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care can reduce these issues.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was long-term care, is this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. This really is one of just a couple of dings on a very solid profile. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 98.60465 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility also wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its residents out of the hospital. While it had 2.33 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score wasn't bad due to it having some more complex patients.
