Registered Staff Hours
Facility Inspections
This nursing home's best category grade came in the area of inspections. In this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The second best category we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. In computing these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The important question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. We analyzed the licensure of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in calculating our score in this category. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared well in this metric. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving residents even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of C in that area. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the data points we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.612404 percent of its patients. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
