Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our higher grades in that area, with an A. This is a notably better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our inspection ratings are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's short-term care grade is one of its best grades. The nursing home was given a grade of B- in this area. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the nation with 55 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a score of D. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. With a meager 2.7 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest category was long-term care, which is the last area we scored. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of D. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the facility did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this facility administered the vaccine to just 90.41096 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.33 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
