Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. The nursing category assesses several subcategories, many of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is better than what is offered by most facilities. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home the nation in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its top-shelf profile, this facility also performed well in our short-term care area. In fact, it received a score of A in that category. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 62.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
We awarded this nursing home an A- for inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was long-term care, which ended up being a weak spot for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care, leaving this as its worst grade. We would nevertheless suggest that you look at the bigger picture. Long-term care scores are pivotal for individuals in need of personal care. After considering nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. Based on its grade in this category, it is surprising to learn that this nursing home performed reasonably well both subcategories. Indeed, this facility vaccinated 95.2381 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.76 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
