The main reason this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of A. The nursing rating assesses a handful of components, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is better than what is offered by most facilities. Lastly, this place appears to be above average in several of the major quality measures we looked at in this area. It fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores came in the category of short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this area. In determining these short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. It performed decently in this area, with 48.6 percent of its residents returning home.

Moving on to our inspection category, we gave this facility a grade of just D. One of the most significant factors in evaluating inspection reports is deficiencies. We recommend you pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home was hit with multiple category G through L deficiencies, which rank among the more severe deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies found by inspectors had the potential to create actual harm to residents. Finally, this facility also received 11 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Historical

This facility's weakest category is long-term care, which is the last area we looked at. It received an abysmal F in this category. In spite of several solid scores in other categories, this score is still alarming so we felt obligated to draw your attention to it. For residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 95.06579 percent of its patients, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.41 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
