Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this category, which is much better than its overall grade. Our inspection scores are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of C in the area. Our nursing grade is mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.
Does this page answer your questions about Manor Care Health Services - Largo?
Short-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this facility only earned a D for its short-term care rating, which is not a very good score. Short-term care ratings are important for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this nursing home offers substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at was long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 97.40566 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
