Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Even though we gave this nursing home an abysmal overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing category. Our nursing grade includes several components, however, the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a low total compared with most nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to discover that this nursing home earned a decent short-term care rating this year. We awarded it a C in that category. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be more critical for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The tricky part is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. We suggest you scrutinize the level of severity of the deficiencies. This facility was assessed one category L deficiency, which is the most serious category of deficiencies. This means CMS found a widespread deficiency placing resident safety or health in imminent danger. Even one deficiency in this category will really pull a nursing home's inspection rating down. Lastly, we would like to point out that this place received large government fines recently totaling over $100,000. This generally signifies that a bad track record spanned more than one year.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was long-term care. It received an F for this area, which is a rock bottom score. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities offer. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this facility provided the vaccine to only 88.04554 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
