Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also received favorable long-term care grades in our assessment. In fact, we awarded them one of our stronger grades in that area, with a score of B+. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing rating weighs a handful of components, but the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Florida in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving a resident at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we assessed was short-term care. We awarded this facility a D for short-term care, making this its least impressive area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is frequently a solid measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing metrics we focus on. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.7 percent of its residents returning home.
