Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to earning a great overall grade, this facility fared even better in the area of inspections which is associated with the nursing home's recent inspections. We gave it an A for this category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection scores are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also was given a first-rate short-term care grade. We awarded them an elite strong of A- in this area. Short-term care grades are generally used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided just 0 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is far below the national average. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to our next category, we gave this nursing home a D in our long-term care category. This is the facility's weakest category rating. Naturally, this category pulled down the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
