Facility Inspections
While we graded this place incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a relatively impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that area with a grade of B+. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that had a long list of severe deficiencies. Sadly, this facility received a category L deficiency, which was not what we expected based on its inspection grade. This category of deficiency indicates the government inspectors discovered a widespread deficiency putting patient health or safety in imminent danger. While other aspects of this nursing home's inspection report were favorable, we have some reservations.
Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. With our short-term care category, we try to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 42.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. The nursing category is based on many factors, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is well below average. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found this place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth category, this facility did not perform well in this area either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this is about as terrible as it gets. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated 90.885414 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit below the national average. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.67 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
