Facility Inspections
While we graded this place incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that category with a B+. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to note that this nursing home received an F for its long-term care score. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 78.85197 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
Does this page answer your questions about Majestic Care of New Haven?
Nurse Quality
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Nursing scores are mostly tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in that category. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. With a score of this caliber in this area, we weren't stunned to discover this place was below average in multiple staffing figures we focus on. It offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
