Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received high marks in the area of long-term care, with high-end score of A- in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.354836 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the elderly population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. The nursing grade is based on several components, however, the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we rated was short-term care. We gave this facility a D in the area of short-term care, rendering this the nursing home's least impressive category. In our short-term care score, we strive to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
