Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a strong nursing home is that it received an impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an A+. Our inspection ratings are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Building on its impressive profile, this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing. We awarded it an B for that category. Our nursing rating is mostly associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving residents more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The third category we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home received an impressive long-term care grade, with a grade of B in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After we finished assessing the volume of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 76.42586 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we analyzed was short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a C in this area. Our short-term care grade is generally used to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. We weren't able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
