The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility ended up receiving a a very poor grade in our short-term care area. It received a lowly F in this area. In our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Based on its score in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the data we looked at.
