Nurse Quality
Even though we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a quality grade in nursing. We gave it a B in that category. The nursing rating is based on numerous subcategories. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to serious injury, this facility performed as well as just about any nursing home we assessed. Avoiding major falls is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.
Facility Inspections
As it turns out, its government inspection reports were not the source of this nursing home's abysmal overall grade. In fact, it received a C in this category. Inspection scores are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This facility was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were in categories G through L. This indicates that inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to present an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care rating, which is well below average in this category. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Based on its score in this category, we were not surprised to discover that this place was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the data we looked at. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 33.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, is this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility administered the vaccine to 98.299324 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable figure. Surprisingly, this place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 1.45 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
