Facility Inspections
While we were fairly low on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an D. Our nursing score is based on quite a few components, however, the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in that area. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. One of the datapoints we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is short-term care. This facility received a poor grade of F in this area. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. As you might expect, we discovered that this facility provides far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
