Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place really excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Few facilities performed better in this area. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B. There are many datapoints included in this grade. Many of the datapoints are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its next highest category grade in the area of long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. For patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the average nursing home. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we scored was short-term care. This nursing home was given a grade of C in the area. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
