Facility Inspections
On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to this nursing home's list of accomplishments, it also was awarded a superb short-term care score. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this area. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. When determining our nursing grades, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this statistic. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a resident at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's worst area is long-term care, which is the final category we analyzed. In this area, we awarded this nursing home an D. Facilities that don't score well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated only 62.628864 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
