Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second most respectable score was short-term care, but it nevertheless earned just a D in that area. This ended up being a well below average grade. In calculating our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is considered to be a solid assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With its weak rating in this category, we were not stunned to discover this place provides substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home a grade of just D for our long-term care score. This is not an impressive grade. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.18367 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next area we assessed is nursing. It received an abysmal F in this area, which is a poor score. Our nursing rating consists of several data points, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is well below average. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign in light of the fact that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
