Short-term Care Quality
In addition to earning a great overall grade, this nursing home also received an A+ in short-term care. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It supplied about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the average nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 73.4 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This score is based on the nursing home's inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is long-term care. This nursing home fared very well in our long-term care category also. We gave them an impressive score of A+ in this area. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home provided vaccination data. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we scored, this facility received a very favorable grade of A in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home completed a straight A profile. Our nursing rating assesses several data points, but the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 7.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the higher totals we found. Furthermore, a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any facility in the nation when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
