Facility Inspections
We also would like to emphasize the fact that this facility has earned nearly flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its elite performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a score of A for our short-term care rating. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third category, this nursing home was given an excellent long-term care score. In fact, it received a grade of A- in this category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
