Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. In determining our nursing scores, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this subcategory. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a resident more often.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second most respectable category is long-term care, but even there it earned just a D in that category. This turns out to be a relatively poor score. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's third highest score was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared somewhat badly. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we weren't stunned to find this place was well below average in the two key staffing metrics we assess. In fact, it provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our last area of inspections, this nursing home received an F in this area. For nursing homes with bad inspection scores, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 31 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
