Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
The next highest area we awarded this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed most nursing homes in this metric with 56.8 percent of its patients returning home. This really bolstered its score in this area.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's third best category was long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. For patients in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 99.42085 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.48 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the next area, this nursing home really didn't fare well in this category either. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. There are numerous criteria within this area. Most of these subcategories relate to staffing levels. This facility offered only 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident each day. On top of its weak nursing hour totals, this facility earned poor scores in many of the quality-based metrics we considered in calculating our nursing scores. We found that more of this nursing home's residents experienced falls which led to major injury.
