Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care rating, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our short-term care grade is often used to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we looked at is this nursing home's weakest category. Nevertheless, even its weakest link would be a strength for most facilities. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 98.56115 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
