In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Our nursing score focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home an A- for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area generally have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

This facility is also strong in the category of short-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B+. It outpaced most facilities in this area. In forming these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

The next category we scored is long-term care. This facility was given a better than average nursing grade in our assessment, with a B. While this was not nearly as impressive as some of its other grades, this remains one of the stronger grades for this area. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 89.77778 percent of its patients for pneumonia. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
