Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another quality feature for this nursing home is that it was awarded an impressive long-term care score. Indeed, this wound up being its second best category grade. In this area, we awarded this facility a B+. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.74648 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. The nursing grade is based on numerous factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This facility provided 4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which was above the national average. Finally, this facility also excelled in several quality measures we assessed. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, this place performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is typically an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by providing better nursing care and a system of moving patients more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored is short-term care. This nursing home received an above average short-term care grade this year, with a grade of B-. While this isn't quite as strong as many of its other scores, this is still a decent grade for that area. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 43.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
