Short-term Care Quality
Even though this facility's overall grade was abysmal, it didn't perform terribly in the category of short-term care. We awarded it a B- for that category, which isn't bad. That said, this wasn't enough to salvage its overall profile. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is considered to be a reliable measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. One reason for this facility's strong grade in this area is that it offers more care from registered nurses to its patients than the typical nursing home. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. It performed decently in this area, with 47.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
As it turns out, its inspection reports were not the source of this facility's abysmal overall grade. It received a C in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. This facility had 9 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled J through L. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to put resident safety or health in immediate harm or jeopardy. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Nurse Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, this facility was relatively weak in some of the datapoints we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care. This facility was given a poor grade of F in that category. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility vaccinated 96.381584 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable figure. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.07 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is not nearly as favorable than its vaccination record.
