While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Another one of this facility's higher category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 6.19 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some facilities due to some of the medical complexity of patients.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. Nursing grades are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at a few nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This place fared excellent when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

The final area we graded is short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is a rock bottom score. This is obviously a major concern. In our short-term care grade, we seek to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. It appears that this facility was below average in two of the key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 10 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
