Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we gave this nursing home a grade of B in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our inspections rating. This is a very respectable nursing score. Inspection grades are tied to pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we analyzed was short-term care. For this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. Our short-term care scores are probably more critical for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 2.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
