Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well overall, this facility also received nearly flawless government inspections. Therefore, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On the list of its many high-end scores, this facility received an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that area. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also was dominant in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. It does not look like this facility provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 6.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final area, this nursing home also was given a first-rate nursing rating, with a grade of B+. This finished off a very strong profile. In calculating our nursing grades, we assess both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
