Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. In determining these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Our nursing rating is primarily based on a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B+. It outperformed most facilities in this category. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
In the last area we looked at, we found that this facility earned a solid government inspection report this year as well. As a result, it earned a decent grade in inspections with a score of B. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
