Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive long-term care rating. This turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area typically have few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to alert you to the fact that this nursing home was given a superb score of A in our short-term care area. Short-term care scores are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

The final category we scored is nursing, where this nursing home received a B+. This completed an elite report card. Not many facilities earned a B+ or better in every single category. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the number of hours nurses commit to residents and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
