One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong facility is that it received an impressive inspection score. In fact, inspections is its best category. In that category, we awarded this facility an A+. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

We also awarded this facility a score of A for our short-term care grade. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is typically a fair measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility provided more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 63.1 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. In computing a facility's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses are with patients and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final category we analyzed was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a poor score. You shouldn't necessarily disregard a facility as a result of one concerning category though. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. One of the data points we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 95.89041 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.06 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
