Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ health inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On the list of its many dominant scores, this nursing home was given a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a score of A in that category. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. We assessed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category we rated, this facility received a very favorable grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this grade, the facility finished off a first-rate report card. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 94.508675 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
