Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another quality feature for this facility is that it was given a favorable long-term care score. In fact, this wound up being its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. One of the criteria we considered after this nursing home's impressive nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.83905 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the elderly. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.13 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing score includes many subcategories. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This place provides an incredible 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
In the last area, this nursing home also received an impressive short-term care grade, with a B+. This completed an elite profile. In determining our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. One of this facility's strengths is that it offers more than an hour of care per day from registered nurses per patient. This is the gold standard in this metric, as it's approximately 1.5 times higher than the typical facility's level of registered nurse staffing. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 27.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
