Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the place's overall score. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with a list of deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Surprisingly, this facility actually received an impressive nursing grade this year as well. We gave it a grade of B in this category. We looked at the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses worked with residents, in computing our score in this category. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category is long-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is essentially a middle of the pack grade in this area. Our long-term care scores are more critical for people in need of more conventional services associated with personal care. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 93.703705 percent of its patients. This is a few points less than we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. The last datapoint we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had a relatively high 4.34 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Neither its vaccination record nor its hospitalization rate were strengths for this place in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's worst area was short-term care, which is the final area we assessed. In this area, we gave this facility a D. Our short-term care ratings are important for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing. This includes a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provides fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 36.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
