Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the main reasons this turned out to be a strong nursing home is that it received a very impressive long-term care grade. This was its best category. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.82609 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive grades, we awarded this facility an A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area typically have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third most favorable area we awarded this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. Our short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the last category, we gave this nursing home a D for the area of nursing. This was the facility's weakest category rating. Sadly, this category hurt the facility's overall grade a bit. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this facility also didn't perform as well as we had hoped in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed in this category.
