Facility Inspections
To pair with its favorable overall score, we gave this place an A+ for inspections. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to alert you to the fact that this nursing home received a superb score of A in our short-term care area. Our short-term care ratings are critical for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One reason for this nursing home's strong grade in this category is that it offers a significantly greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any facility in the country in this area with 62.6 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our third category, this facility was awarded first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, it received a score of A- in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 94.83541 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 1.82 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the final area, this facility received an extremely favorable nursing grade. While this was not quite as dominant as some of its other scores, this remains one of the stronger grades a facility can receive. We looked at the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses were with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This nursing home provides 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
