Short-term Care Quality
We want to note that this nursing home received a far better grade for short-term care than its overall score. In fact, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is more often than not a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country in this area with 58 percent of its patients returning home. This is a much better rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received a great nursing grade. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given strong long-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of B+. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.29064 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.47 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
Turning our last category of inspections, this nursing home received a horrible grade. With an F in the inspection category, this nursing home's overall grade was adversely affected. When a place has this poor of an inspection rating, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This facility was assessed one category J or K deficiency, which are among the worst deficiencies. Finally, we want to point out that this nursing home was assessed large government fines in excess of $50,000. This typically means that government inspectors became fed up after several years of failed health inspections.
