To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care grade. With our short-term care score, we endeavor to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

In addition, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. We looked at the licensure of nurses working for the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this category. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving a patient even once per day.

The next category we scored was long-term care, in which we awarded it an above average grade of B. This nursing home really does not have any weak grades. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 97.36842 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
