Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility one of our better scores in long-term care, with an A-. This is a much better grade than the nursing home's overall score, which was decent but not elite. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another area where this facility excelled. In fact, we gave this facility an A- for our inspections category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Nurse Quality
Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. The nursing score analyzes several subcategories, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is an abysmal score. This is obviously a major concern. In our short-term care score, we strive to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Considering its score in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.4 percent of its residents returning home.
