Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this facility also performed well in our long-term care category, where it received an A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of providing very favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 1.99 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than most facilities due to it having more complicated patients.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was given a favorable short-term care score. Indeed, we gave it an above average grade of B in this area. Our short-term care grade is often used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services To provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It was above average in this metric with 55.5 percent of its patients returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we analyzed was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a grade of B. Although this ended up being its least impressive category rating, this is still a good grade. Our nursing grade weighs quite a few subcategories, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is far better than what is offered by most facilities. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in several quality-based metrics we looked at. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Missouri in this category. This is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by providing better nursing care and having a system of moving patients at least once a day.
