Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable grade in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for that area, which is not bad. We believe that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Nursing ratings are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing grades also consider quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility's next best category is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. With a grade in this range for this area, we weren't shocked to learn that this nursing home was below average in many staffing areas we assess. It supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.9 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our fourth category, we gave this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care. This was the facility's worst category grade. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities provide. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 61.84739 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
