Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this facility earned near flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a grade of A+ for its short-term care grade. In our short-term care assessment, we try to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is certainly an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country with 61.5 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Our nursing grade includes quite a few factors, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of this total, nearly one fourth of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. Lastly, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, it fared as well as any nursing home the country in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
In the last category, we awarded this facility a grade of A+ for its long-term care score. This completed a very favorable profile. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. This nursing home was also able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had just 1.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a substantially better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
